Looking For A Place To Rent In Wawona
From Acadia to Yosemite: I'm a recent transplant from Maine searching for a rental in Wawona in order to be nearby the NPS Education office where I am working year-round. No pets, just two cute houseplants. Call or text (603) 568-5746.
Wawona Project by Boy Scout
Hi, this is Joseph Balogh from Fresno. I’m currently working on an eagle project for the Boy Scouts of America, and i’m attempting to gather potential ideas for a project. Me and my family have been part time residents in Wawona for a few generations. I would love to give back to the community, so I thought that I would contact those who know more about the area than I do. (That’s you!)
The project’s parameters are as such:
1. It has to be non-profit. Basically, I can’t organize a project for a private business, it has to be for the community.
2. It has to be simple! If a normal person with less than five minutes of training can’t do it, then the idea’s a bust. The whole point of an eagle project is to organize a group of people to accomplish a service for a community, and there’s no way I can do that efficiently if I have to spend an hour teaching each person how to do something.
3. Any and all supplies needed for the project have to be donated by the community.
I would appreciate any ideas you could give me, i’m looking to do the project sometime around the spring/summer of 2019.
If you’d like to contact me directly, you can call or text (text preferred) at (559) 203-0957
Thank you for your help and ideas. I am providing my email address here below. Please contact me if you can help with my project.
Sincerely,
Joseph Balogh

New Yosemite Forester
November 26, 2018
I’d like to introduce myself to the Wawona Community. My name is Pegg O’Laughlin Julson and I am the new Forester for Yosemite NP. There is much to be done by way of forestry here in the Park, and Wawona keeps drawing my attention. Many of you have experienced a great deal throughout the past summer and fall in regards to the Ferguson Fire as well as ongoing drought and infestations of bark beetles killing many trees on both private and park lands. The dead and dying trees are of concern to all of us in relationship to being an added fire hazard, tree failure hazard, as well as just being visually displeasing.
Please be patient as our tree crews work on addressing the most severe tree hazards first and work our way towards Wawona. I appreciate your diligence in doing what work you can on your own properties as well as passing information on to me about new forestry related developments.
The Wawona Wood Yard is now open for residents and property owners (no contractors) for fuelwood cutting as well as vegetative yard waste dumping. Please use the designated vegetative debris pile in the back for its intended purpose only. Where forestry and roads crews have temporarily piled logs for removal, please do not add to those piles or dump debris, tires etc. The Park has limited time and resources to do the great amount of work needed as it is. Illegal dumping just makes that job harder and takes longer.
For now, we are asking that NO DUMPING of ashes near the wood yard occur. There have been problems in the past and we all need to be vigilant in properly letting ashes completely cool in a metal container before dumping anywhere. I look forward to m

November 21 Alert: Watch For Debris On Roads In Ferguson Fire Footprint
Drive carefully and slowly this week as a storm is expected to pass through starting Wednesday and continuing through the weekend. Rainfall of 0.25 to 0.5 inches is predicted Wednesday evening and on Friday. Rain can bring down loose soils, rocks, and other debris in the Ferguson Fire area. Pay extra caution from Cascade Falls Picnic Area to Sweetwater Creek on Highway 140/El Portal Road and between Grouse Creek and Chinquapin on Wawona Road. During periods of heavy rain, consider avoiding driving until the rain stops. Preemptive road closures may occur if predicted rainfall rates increase. (G. Dickman)
